"We got into this routine where I would do the prep work and cooking, and my partner would read to me from a book."
“I’ve only lived in Fort Greene since the beginning of the summer, and I have been here almost every Saturday when the market’s open. Today I focused on… well I’ll just say I was drawn to the color purple. So I bought purple basil, purple carrots, purple peppers, and this garlic that has a purple hue.
Last year I sort of took this feminist stance on wanting to share cooking responsibilities with my partner. The thing is- our kitchen in our old house was too small for two people to be in it at the same time. We got into this routine where I would do the prep work and cooking and my partner would read to me from a book. I love being read to aloud to, and when you read a book aloud to someone it’s like reading the book together. I find that there are so few moments where you are read aloud to anymore as an adult. Now that we have moved into the new apartment with a big enough kitchen for the two of us, he still reads to me while I cook because it has become so enjoyable.”← Back to basket diaries
